Frequently Asked Questions...

What is the Writing Center?

The Writing Center is a place where students can receive guidance and feedback on their writing.

Where is the Writing Center?

The Writing Center is located at the Hamilton Wenham Regional High School in Room 99. When entering from the front entrance, Room 99 is to the right of the Principal’s office.

Why should someone go to the Writing Center?

Every student is assigned research papers, lab reports, and essays. The tutors at the Writing Center are there to help guide a writer through any part of the process, whether it be a brainstorm, an outline, a draft, or an edit. In addition, tutors can help guide students on any writing assignment such as a persuasive argument, a written speech, job or college resume, and more.

When should someone go to the Writing Center?

At least one tutor is in the Writing Center each block (class). Students can come to the Writing Center during their study blocks or sign up for an after school session. The sign-up sheet is in front of the Writing Center. Reminder: Tutors will only remain after school if a student signs up in advance.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No. The Writing Center has a “first come, first served” policy. The only time a student needs to make an appointment is when he or she wants to meet a tutor after school. The procedures for signing-up for an after school session are mentioned above.

Do I need a draft to come to the Writing Center?

No. Tutors can help a student at any point in the writing process, such as helping a student brainstorm for a topic.

Is the Writing Center only for High School Students?

Not necessarily. The Writing Center is in the early stages of extending to the Miles River Middle School. This project’s progress will be updated as needed.
